*** I apologize for my terrible spelling error. Can I just blame pregnancy brain?
As of Sunday, I am 21 weeks along now and I have started to feel Shim's little kicks more and more. I started feeling little, tiny flutters a few weeks ago but now we've moved along to more discernible kicks. Sometimes in the bladder and those aren't so comfortable, but the ones in my stomach almost tickle. I tried to let Ben feel it one night when Shim was really active, but I still don't think you can feel anything from the outside yet.
Along with the kicks has come a new little friend. Backaches. I'm not sure if they are caused by the baby's position or just the extra weight I'm carrying, but they are persistent and painful! I called my cousin yesterday afternoon (she's my doctor that I don't pay) to describe my symptoms and see if I was overreacting or if I needed to call my doctor. She has 3 children and one on the way so besides having medical expertise, she is also pretty familiar with pregnancies. She suggested that I call my doc, and see what they say. So I did and they gave me some sound medical advice:
SUCK IT UP - APPLY HEAT AND TAKE TYLENOL.
At least I did learn that Tylenol PM was safe to take, so I guess that is a good thing. I know I shouldn't complain. I have had a healthy and easy pregnancy up to this point and I am grateful. BUT. IT. HURTS!
The house is still progressing. I guess it is basically on schedule, and we are really hoping that it stays that way! We have a few weeks leeway, but not much at all. Mom and I went furniture shopping the other day and I have a pretty good idea now of what I'm looking for. If it actually gets completed before the baby is born, I'll definitley post pictures. I'm excited now that I have an idea in my head of how we'll decorate -- which wasn't easy since we don't know the sex.

I Really, Really Hate You Dish Network
So last winter I had all sorts of problems with Dish Network, our satellite cable provider. If you want a full recap, you can go back to those 2 posts where I detailed everything. If not, just suffice it to say that I had trouble with my Dish box and they kept having to send me new ones mainly because their technicians didn't know how to resolve any problems. (As we sometimes say at my office "they're ate up with the dumbass" -- country bumpkin' saying, I know, but my family is from the deep south!) It took about 3 months to get everything sorted out and in the end, I kept the cable box that I initially had because they kept sending the wrong thing.
So anyways, I'm trying to get us situated to move next week. NEXT WEEK!! I've been so organized with our packing and really feel like I'm ahead of schedule on that. This week I've lined up the repairs that we have to do for the buyers, scheduled the movers, and am in the process of turning off our utilities. Everything has gone smoothly until today when I called Dish to cancel our cable. This should have been fairly simple, right? WRONG!!!
I was prepared for them to ask why I was canceling and not transferring our service to our new house, etc. I quickly explained that we're in a temporary situation (aka ... back home with the rentals') right now and wouldn't be needing service immediately. Then the lady begins to explain to me that I am under a 2 year contract, blah, blah, blah. I stopped her right there -- I'm not under contract! She claimed that I was because they had upgraded my receiver last January. I calmly explained to her that:
a) I had been having troubles with my service and they sent me a new receiver because they couldn't offer any other solution
b) new receiver didn't work and I actually sent it back, we went through 2 more before I ended up keeping my old receiver
c) they didn't explain to me that by sending a replacement (non-defective) receiver that I was agreeing to another 2 year contract
I went through all of this with her and once it was clear that she couldn't do anything, I asked to speak with a supervisor. She ended up putting me on hold and came back claiming that she spoke with a supervisor AND her executive team and that they would waive the cancellation fee since they could not find a signed document on file. I'm pretty sure this was one of those cases where they just try to scam their customers into paying a cancellation fee unjustifiably because this (alleged) conversation took all of 60 seconds.
I'm sure this post is pretty boring for anyone reading but there are 2 take-aways here:
1) Dish Network is the devil
2) whenever you feel that you are being treated unfairly by a customer service representative, ALWAYS escalate your problem to a supervisor -- if you don't ask for them to rectify it to your satisfaction they certainly won't do so
Oh and also, I'm not sure who our cable provider will be when we move but I can tell you who we won't be using!

Panera Bread Company
I've totally abandoned my blog these past few weeks! Just not much to report, I'm afraid. In light of the fact that I'm out of blog fodder (I hate that word, don't you?) I figure I'll do one of the things that I do best: complain.
Today's victim happens to be Panera Bread company. A place that I've been eating since college. I used to absolutley love Panera and would try to convince my roommates to go with me all the time. I literally craved it and couldn't find one thing on the menu that I disliked. Even today, I go there a minimum of once a week for lunch. (Its one of like, 3 restaurants near my work) I've had everything on the menu at least 75 times and while I admit the quality has taken a bit of a nosedive, its still consistent and edible. That said, I have a huge bone to pick with them.
I try to drink a lot of water -- I drink it all day at my office, at home, everywhere. Lunch is no exception. There are times when I'll have an iced tea or a soft drink but usually its just water. Now, most places will give you a regular sized cup when you order a water. You're just on the honor system to not be a cheapskate and get a regular drink. Not at Panera though. Oh no siree!
Panera discriminates against people who drink water. They give you a little, teeny, tiny dixie cup. Seriously! The water glasses they give you hold about 1/4 the liquid that a regular sized cup will hold. This is so wrong. Just because I choose to drink water, means I drink less than other people? Or do they just want me to get up, out of my cramped table in the corner, hit my head on the stupid hanging lamp they have over the table, walk around to the drink station, slip on something someone spilled, fill up my cup, and proceed back to my little cramped table in the corner? Repeat sequence 4 times. All the while, your food is getting cold and/or soggy.
Well, I'm finally sick of it. I'm taking a stand .....

Yes, I am! I'm standing up for myself and getting multiple glasses of water. If you notice in this picture, there are actually more than 3 cups but the line behind me of people waiting to get drinks was long so I had to quit at 3.
Anyway, I know this is silly. And probably not worthy of a whole blog post. But its what I've got going on in my life, at this moment. But still, Panera is soooo on notice.

Jessica, Jessica ....
I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Jessica Simpson's latest little blunder? In case you haven't, here is the scoop: Jessica and Tony Romo broke up (a few weeks ago) but not before Jessica was able to gift Tony a $100,000 boat for his birthday. I guess Jess hasn't really been out in public much since the breakup because she was out the other day and the paparazzi were following her and asking her tons of questions. I only heard the audio, but from what I could tell, it seemed like she was trying to be polite and ignore the questions the best she could. Eventually they start asking about the boat and whether or not she she was asking for Tony to return it to her now that they've broken up.
Now, based on the audio it seems like Jessica is getting annoyed. So she responds "I'm not an Indian Giver" The papper responds "oh, not an Indian Giver, huh, Jessica?". End of audio.
Of course now, she is getting flack from the Native-Indian community for her comment. This is, I'm sure, fueled by our loverly news media. And now, of course I have a few thoughts on the matter. (Let me preface by stating that I do not particularly like JSimp. She's okay and all, but I just don't really think she's brought anything to the table since her Newlywed days and I'm just over her.) First, I think this is a classic case of a celebrity letting their guard down when they are being inundated by paparazzi. She was annoyed, and said the first thing that came to her mind. Who cares? It was clear that she didn't mean anything offensive by the statement. Secondly, the phrase 'Indian Giver' is a fairly common phrase. Maybe in these days of insane political correctness it isn't, but its certainly something she grew up saying. (I know I certainly did). Also, isn't Jessica known for her little gaffes? "Chicken of the Sea", "I Don't Eat Buffalo". So, really, for someone who is known to say things without thinking, can they really be accused of being racially insensitive? No. I think not.
The celebrity bloggers need to find someone else to pick on. She didn't mean to be offensive and this is a typical case of the media making a big deal out of something so ridiculously minor.

Yoinked!
'Yoink' is the word that Ben likes to use when you take something away from someone. For example, say we're having dessert and he reaches over and takes the last bite of my ice cream ... he would say 'yoink' and that makes it okay for him to take it from me. Or suppose you're at a crowded party and someone takes your seat after you get up. As long as the person says "yoink" its all okay. Those are the rules.
Now, you need to understand something here. The whole yoink thing really only applies to someone when they actually SEE you take something from them. Or when they are at least in earshot. Otherwise it is STEALING.
So it seems that we have a little problem in our office with someone not knowing the difference between 'yoinking' and 'stealing'. You see, we had these two cheap-o knives in the kitchen at our office for the longest time. I'm not sure whose they were originally, but someone brought them in so that people would have something to use when they needed to cut a piece of fruit or something. Then, they both went missing a few months ago. At the same time. Strange, huh? I thought so too, but really it wasn't a terribly big deal. I figured they got thrown away or something, so I went out and bought a new one and brought it into the office. It wasn't expensive, but it was a GREAT knife and I used it all the time to cut my apples and stuff. Then, a few weeks ago ... it went missing.
SO. ANNOYING.
Theeeeennnnn, someone in our office brought in a bunch of coffee filters that she had bought for use in the office. A week later, they were gone as well.
What gives? I mean none of this stuff is really anything of any consequence. And it isn't like someone is stealing from any one person. Just taking things that aren't theirs. And it is really frustrating. Have you ever had a problem with an office klepto? What did you do about it?
(For the record, we don't really know who the klepto is, BUT it is a small company so its fairly easy to do the whole process of elimination thing. As I said earlier, the things that are stolen are inconsequential things but still it is stealing and it is bothersome. And also for the record, I've put several little booby traps throughout the office for the taking. We'll see what happens)

Grudging
Quick note before I delve into yet another deep, thought-provoking post of mine: I got the idea for this post from a blog that I read regularly. 2 birds 1 blog. I won't link it because my mom reads this blog and that blog is crude at times, still its hilarious. (Google it if you're interested) There is no way I am capable of being as witty or funny as she is, but I'm am borrowing her idea ... not her writing. I know there's mucho sensitivity in blog-land about stealing material.
I am the all-time queen of holding a grudge. Just ask my husband. Not that I'm implying that I am holding a grudge against him, just that he has to listen to my bi-weekly grudge report so he's well acquainted with this particular personality trait of mine! Some say its unhealthy to hold a grudge, I say its just my own little way of protecting myself from people doing me wrong!
To my family and friends reading this -- don't worry. I more than likely am not holding a grudge against you (but even if I do, you won't read about it here on this blog). I usually only hold grudges against people that I:
a) don't like
b) don't know
c) don't know and don't like
With people I'm close to, I may get mad at them and usually they'll know about it so there is really no need to hold a grudge. Does that make sense?
As for people I don't know, etc, basically one wrong move and I'll hold a grudge forever. And these grudges of mine have a mind of their own. Sometimes, someone can do something and I'll begrudge them for it. Five minutes later a completely different person can do the exact same thing and I'll brush it off. I think it probably all boils down to whether or not I like the offender.
Just so you'll understand where I'm coming from, I think you should all be privy to my most current grudge-report!
1) JACKASS - This is our neighbor at the lake (I've mentioned this in a prior post). His name is actually Jack, but ever since The Incident he is officially JackAss. Let me give you some background on him before I tell you all about The Incident. He's one of those, hmm ... for lack of a better word, he's a yankee. He's got a brusque personality. Just basically someone I would never get along with. He is constantly making comments that he finds funny, but in actuality they are condescending. I can't think of an example right now, but just trust me on that. You all know the type. So anyways, The Incident:
It is Memorial Day weekend and my cousins are over at the lake for the day. JackAss and clan are out on their dock next door to ours. We're all out there having a good time when Liam, Gavin, and Caris (my cousins) all decide they want to go ride on the jet ski. Whenever they want to ride, I'm usually the one to take them out for whatever reason. First, I take the 6 year old (Liam) out for a ride. We come back and I pick up the 4 year old (Gavin), who at the time has a cast on his arm that he absolutley cannot get wet. (Read: cast that must not get wet ... therefore I can't possibly drive fast or do any 'tricks' with him on it) Then I come back and get the 2 year old, Caris. Caris has never been on the jet ski before, and she's TWO so as you can imagine I'm not exactly out there hot-rodding on my jet ski. So we finish our ride and I head back to the dock and park. When I hear this:
"HEY KATIE! YOU GOTTA SLOOOOW DOWN, HONEY. THAT THING KICKS UP A HECK OF A WAKE"
My response? "Sorry" But in actuality I was thinking:
a) kiss my ass
b) i'm driving CHILDREN, i'm not going too fast
c) this is a LAKE. people operate boats and personal watercraft. they make WAKES.
d) you are an asshole
e) you really just shouldn't have said anything to me. you'll regret this.
f) don't you dare call me HONEY.
I ignored him the remainder of the weekend. Flat out would not look at him if he spoke to me. I intend for the "sorry" that I muttered to him to be my last word to him. Ever. Unless he cures cancer, then maybe I'd say "thanks".
2) OLDBILL - This is a dude that calls our office from time to time. He is one of our vendors, and is always a jerk. Just one of those people, you know? Always saying something snarky, and just generally not a nice dude. Somehow when he calls, I always get stuck talking to him. This is the type of guy that responds to normal comments and pleasantries in the contrary. You know? Like he has a sarcastic comment for whatever you say. Evidently he missed the day in smartass school where they taught you to properly utilize sarcasm. I heard he took Asshole 102 that day instead. Anyway, I've never really held a grudge against him (just didn't care for him) until The Conversation that recently transpired:
Phone rings, I answer. (I work in a small office, if its ringing someone answers it... we don't have a fancy-shmancy receptionist).
OldBill: "Hey, this is Bill [last name] at [company]. I'm having some trouble sending Ronnie an email. The address I have is ronnie@xyzoilco.com"
Me: "Well, I believe its actually ronnie@xyzoil.net"
OldBill (in snarky tone): "You believe? Well, what is it. I'm really going to need the exact address. Mwuahahahaha!"
Me (in snarkier tone): "What I just told you. That is the email address"
So, while I was sorta nice about it, I definitely let him know that he'd smarted off to me unnecessarily. Yes, I said "I believe". But for crying out loud. Semantics, jackass! If I didn't KNOW for sure, I would have said "hold on let me find out" and then told him.
Assholery noted, and now you are forever on my Grudge list, OldBill.

Twittergate
I have a whole post about my weekend at the lake and my pirate catfish, but since I don't have all the pictures from my sister yet, you're going to have to settle for reading my feelings on Ashton Kutcher and his twitter hiatus.
Let me preface this by saying that I have not checked into the facts on any of this at all. Frankly, this isn't really important enough to waste time doing any research and fact-checking especially since any of my sources would be tabloid websites and they really aren't accurate anyway. With that said, I do have opinions on this whole Ashton Kutcher twitter hiatus and I feel like sharing them. Feel free to speak up if you have feelings on the subject and/or legitimate information!
Everyone knows Ashton Kutcher is on Twitter ... he was all proud of himself and made a HUGE deal out of being the first person to reach 1 million followers. I don't really understand Twitter at all, but what I do understand of it is this : if you are on it and have 1,000,000 followers then you are willingly putting information about yourself into cyberspace. Let me take that a step further. If you are a CELEBRITY and you are on Twitter and have 1,000,000 followers then you are basically allowing those million people (or probably more than that now) insight into your daily life. Essentially, they are able to stalk you if they so choose.
Soooooo, with all that said I heard on the radio this morning that Ashton Kutcher is threatning to take a twitter hiatus. (ooooooohhhhh Ashton ..... don't scare us like that!!) Apparently he is upset because there are rumors that the founders of Twitter are in talks to produce something called Twitter TV. I really don't even get it but I think the premise is some sort of competition-show where real people follow celebrities and Twitter about what they see. So I guess Ashton feels like he is being "sold out" by the folks at Twitter because he will end up getting stalked.
Ummm. You are a PUBLIC FIGURE.
WITH A TWITTER ACCOUNT.
WHO BRAGS ABOUT HAVING A MILLION FOLLOWERS.
I think the only person you can blame for selling you out is yourself, Ashton.

Habits
I'm in a very pissy mood today so just bear with me. One of the reasons for my bad mood is that my internet is not working. I HATE YOU O2 SECURE WIRELESS. Seriously, I do.
So anyway I am blogging from my phone now. I'm sure this post will be full of spelling and grammar errors and I'll be lucky if this makes any sense. Don't be rough.
So most everyone here knows that I work for my father in a family business. We go to lunch each day with my cousin and uncle. Sometimes my grandfather will join us if he is around. Anyway, our office is in an area with very few restaurants which means we have a rotation of about 5 different places: Panera, Guthrie's, a BBQ place, a local sandwich shop, and ... ummm..... uh... Well, I guess our rotation only consists of 4 places. That really isn't the point anyway. The point is that we go to the same places each week and we're always together so the people who work at these different resturants pretty much know us and what we tend to order.
For instance, when we all walked into Guthrie's today the ladies who worked there were laughing. Once I told them I wanted a grilled chicken pita, they looked at each other and laughed some more. So, obviously I'm pretty predictable. I go to the same places each week and order the same thing every time. So my question to you is this: is it odd that I go to the same places each week and eat the same things week in, week out? Or is this normal?
I know this post sucks/makes very little sense. Just deal with it. You can blame my interweb provider. (O2 Secure wireless ... they suck).

Riddle Me This
I decided to swing by the gas station to buy a coffee and a ticket to freedom this morning. (Yes, I felt like white trash buying a lotto ticket, but hey ... for $220 million I'll just be white trash) This particular gas station is pretty busy in the morning, so I'm always careful to park at the edge of the parking lot so that it isn't a hassle to back out. I tell you that, so that you'll understand that when I am walking to my car (alone) I am somewhat vulnerable as I am on the very edge of the parking lot.
So as I'm walking to my car, minding my own business, this man is standing by his truck and starts talking to me. He was clearly trying to ask me something and I'm not even sure what he needed because I brushed him off (politely) by saying "no ... sorry" and basically ran to my car. I HATE that feeling!! I realize that there is a good chance he was harmless, but I don't understand why he would select ME to talk to out of all the other people in the parking lot. Furthermore, if he really needed something legitimate, why couldn't he go inside?
What bothers me most is that he only tried to talk to me. I saw about 3 other people walking in his general direction (after I was safely to my car) and he didn't try to talk to any of them. Those people happened to be middle-aged men. I'm sure I was profiled because I'm a young woman. Now, this man could have been legitimate - I'll never know for sure. But because this is something that happens to me often, I don't take the chance. I do try not to be rude, but I also don't ever put myself in a bad situation by stopping and listening to their plight and I most certainly never reach into my wallet to give any money.
Does this ever happen to anyone else? Please say I'm not the only one.

Waterboarding Out .... IPS In
There has been so much media-hype over these enhanced interrogation techniques put in place by the Bush administration. I've heard the term 'waterboarding' several times and didn't really understand exactly what it meant. So I just looked it up on wikipedia and I think what I endured yesterday is a hundred times worse than that ....
An orthodontist visit.
I'm dead serious. If we really want these terrorists to start talking (and we don't, as evidenced by Obama's stance on these interrogation methods) then all we really need to do is send them to my orthodontist! After five minutes in his chair, those clowns will be singing like canaries!
The procedure I had done was called IPS. I'm not sure what that stands for exactly but the way it was explained to me is that he needed to polish between two of my upper teeth to create room for them to move and align corectly. Based on that definition, I thought they were basically just going to use that scraper thing that the dentist uses. Sounds pretty harmless, right?
WRONG.
Immediatley when I sit in the chair, the hygenist starts putting together this saw-looking contraption. A little scary, but I also saw the scraper tools on the tray so I figured the saw wasn't even for me. I was wrong again. When Dr. Williams finally got to me, he checked my teeth quickly and started in with the saw.
A SAW.
BETWEEN MY TEETH.
This was certainly uncomfortable and of course I had concerns about what if his hand slips, etc but it wasn't really that big of a deal. When he finished I breathed a little sigh of relief, thinking that I was done. Nope! He then pulls out this little metal strip. Think dental floss, but thicker. And made out of metal. He scraped that thing between my teeth several times and it HURT. LIKE. HELL. My man even drew blood! My gums are still sore today.
I let him know how torturous this procedure was, and he acted like he understood but I got the feeling he's never really endured it. I go back to the ortho in August and if they tell me that they are doing that IPS thing again I'm going to quit. My teeth are straight enough and I can't take another round of that torture, thankyouverylittle!

Motorcycle Drivers Make Me MUG!
I've been on good behavior for the last few posts, haven't I? I'm pretty sure I have, so please excuse my little rant.
I was driving home from work today, when some idiot on a motorcycle (actually it was a crotch rocket .... nobody with a respectable motorcycle drives that way) nearly killed himself with my car. Seriously! I was minding my own business, driving approximatley the speed limit and leaving a safe distance between my car and the car in front of me. All of a sudden, this jerk on a motorcycle turns up behind me and decides that me and the car in front of me aren't driving fast enough for his liking. So what does he do? The clown doesn't bother to let off the gas, but decides to zip out of my lane into a lane that was exiting BACK into my lane about 3 feet away from my front bumper. I don't even think I saw the asshole's head turn to look before changing lanes!
Of course, I am paying attention and brake in order to give the dude some room but that isn't the point. The point is that a guy ON A MOTORCYCLE pulled right in front of me! Had my reaction time been slower, I could have run him over. Ugh and it made me so mad.
Here is the thing. I don't care if you want to ride a motorcycle. I don't care if you want to drive fast. Hell, be crazy and don't wear your helmet. I don't even really give a damn if you want to drive wrecklessly just as long as your doing so doesn't put me in the position where I could harm you! So in the words of one of my favorite bloggers : crotch rocket drivers .... you are on notice!

ROAR .... I am so annoyed
Currently our cable is through Dish Network. I say currently, because I'm about thisclose to switching cable companies if things don't change. (Yeah I know ... that will really show them, won't it?)
** oops ... accidentally hit publish
Okay, so here is the deal. I am annoyed with Dish because I've been having problems for about the last 3 months. One afternoon I came home from work prepared to watch Regis and Kelly or something equally important and discovered that everything on my DVR had been deleted. EVERYTHING. DELETED. I was livid but I also knew that it was probably a random system malfunction and that nothing could really be done about it. I assumed it was a random occurrence and that it wouldn't happen again. Apparently that is where I went wrong.
After this incident things were normal for a few weeks. Then we started noticing that our bedroom TV would mysteriously change channels while we were watching. At first, this didn't happen often so we didn't really do anything about it. Once it became more frequent, it was obvious to us that someone else in our building was able to control our TV. Evidentley our remotes are on the same frequency or something. Pretty creepy, actually.
At first, I could usually outsmart this neighbor of mine. I figured out quickly that if I try to record something that I am watching, they cannot change the channel very easily. Still it is a pain in the ass because I have to watch with my finger always on the cancel button.
Side note: By now, I have totally profiled this person based on what they like to watch. There are actually two different viewers that I fight with ... I think a mother and her young son. When my channel starts changing, I can pretty quickly figure out whether it is Mom or Kid and try to think of a which channel I can change it to that will annoy them the most. I like to win.
At first this was just a nuisance, and I prided myself on always being able to outsmart them and watch whatever I wanted. Now, this just isn't the case ... they've wised up and I am not always victorious. (Actually, I can beat out Kid nine times out of 10 but Momma is obviously a little smarter)
So the latest? Well, on Tuesday afternoon I came home to find my WHOLE DVR DELETED. AGAIN. I was furious so I immediately called Dish. The lady claimed that my receiver must be faulty so they sent me a new one. She seems to think that will solve my remote control AND my DVR problems. Last night, the icing on the cake was when we got in bed and wanted to watch The Office. I tried to turn it on and Momma was watching something. We fought for a little bit and then it happened ....
SHE DELETED MY SHOW.
I'm supposed to be getting a new receiver from Dish and they claim this will fix things. (I'm doubtful). Until then ... It is on like Donkey Kong with Momma and Kid. After she deleted my Office recording, I punished her for a while by forcing her to watch Alton Brown. I'll show her! And Dish too, if they don't get this fixed ASAP!

The Power of Negative Thinking
I am not an optimist. If you know me, you know that well. I have always preferred to expect the negative and be happy if things work out to the contrary. I think I started taking this approach to life in middle school when I was trying out for the 9th grade cheerleading squad. I worked my butt off every single day and told all of my friends that there was no way on earth I would make the team. Then I did. While I was cheering my way through high school, I would constantly say "oh we won't win this game" and many times we would. When I told people that I had applied to Georgia Tech for college I made sure to qualify it with "but I'm sure I won't get accepted". Of course I did. Then once I was in college, I would go to class, pay attention, take notes, study and do all of the right things that most college students did not. Regardless, I would come out of every test stating that I had failed. Very rarely did I actually fail.
*** OOOPS! I didn't mean to hit publish just yet. If you're on reader ignore this and make sure you read the completed version ***
So you get the picture, right? I'm a Negative Nelly. A pessimist. Debbie Downer. Whatever you want to call me, you're probably correct. My friends and family will tell you that I take this to the extreme, and I will admit that there is some truth to this. However, my negative attitude has served me pretty well thus far and I have no plans to change it.
Now that you have that background, I'll get to the point of this post. Sometimes positive thinking just PISSES ME OFF. Like really, makes me madder than hell. While I am happy to admit that I am usually overly negative, there are times when I am not exaggerating. There are times when I need people to not be so damn positive. Because you know what I think when someone is positive all the time? I think they are liars. I think they are sheltered. I think they are clueless.
So, all you positive thinkers out there .... take a lesson from a pessimist. Sometimes things aren't all that great and it is okay to admit to that. Occasionally you need to complain and prepare for the worst. It can serve you well.
Hope I didn't offend anyone out there, but I'm sure I did!

My Blog Sucks Latley
I've been thinking that my blog is kinda boring lately and the lack of comments further reinforces that point to me. (I LOVE comments so reward me with them when I post something of interest :)
Anyways. So I know my blog sorta sucks right now, and I swear I'm working to improve it. Becky has now taken on a new role as my agent and will be helping me to improve things around here.
One thing that I do want to change is the name of my blog. I started it as Life With the Longmires because it was supposed to be a family thing detailing things that Ben and I do, but then I realized that it isn't really all that interesting to discuss what we eat for dinner every night and what we watch on TV. So I write more about myself. Therefore, I need a name change.
Any suggestions?
UPDATE: Evidently my spelling sucks as well. Thanks all for your feedback and suggestions! I'm going to change the name and I love both Nilsa's and Meg's ideas.

Dear Chick-fil-A,
You are awesome! You are one of the few fast food restaurants that I will visit. (Ask my husband, I am horrible on long road trips because I pretty much refuse to eat fast food). There are many things on your menu which I enjoy, but my all-time favorite is your Chicken Salad Sandwich. With cheese.
I used to live off your sandwiches. Anytime that I didn't feel like cooking or needed to grab something quick to eat, I would always order myself a chicken salad sandwich with cheese. Occasionally, I would change up my order but only if I had Chick-fil-A for my previous meal. The best thing about your chicken salad sandwiches was the fact that they were flat. The bread was toasted and pressed and it just made the sandwich so much tastier. But now, now you have changed your menu up and the sandwich is all new and different.
As a frequent customer, I beg of you to change it back. I can't say that I dislike the new one but it just isn't the same as the old one. I get that you needed to raise prices. I'm not dumb enough to believe that you actually just wanted to re-invent some of your menu items. You just wanted an excuse to raise the price of a sandwich by a couple cents. That's fine. Go ahead and raise your price. I promise, I'll still eat there. JUST DO NOT CHANGE THE RECIPE. I want my sandwich flat and pressed ... just like it used to be. And quit chopping the chicken so coarsely. And keep your lettuce and fancy box while you're at it.
Please. Bring back the old chicken salad sandwich.
Sincerely,
Your Loyal Customer who Despises Change

Just Call Me Grinch

I'll have a real post later, but right now I just need to say something that needs to be said.
I. AM. ANNOYED.
At the risk of sounding like a complete scrooge, I am annoyed because of Christmas. I know that sounds awful but seriously, it is supposed to be a holiday about family and friends and peace and happiness. And frankly, right now it isn't. Christmas is a stressor for several reasons:
1) it is sneaking up on me and i don't know when we will find time to get our tree up and our house decorated
2) i have an ever-growing list of gifts to buy for people and have no clue what to buy them. this means i'll end up buying them something that they don't need (otherwise they would buy it for themselves) and thus wasting my money
3) i don't know when i will find time to go buy the gifts that these people don't really need/want
4) i feel over-committed during the holidays. of course you have the family christmas(es) and the friend get-togethers, and maybe a work party. that is to be expected. but suddenly i'm looking at my december calendar and realize that i don't have a single free weekend!!!! that really gives me great anxiety.
5) right after christmas, we have possibly the worst holiday of all time. New Year's Eve.
If I have offended you, please understand. It isn't any one of these things that frustrate me, it is the combination of all these things.

A Few Things
I've got a lot of random thoughts that I would like to blog about tonight. Mostly, I've realized that this blog has become "life with Katie" and not so much "life with the Longmires". I'll really try to do a better job about blogging about Longmire life and not just life in my bubble. So, now lets get down to business.
1) Ben has his Halloween costume all schemed out. He has really put a lot of thought into it (as he always does) and done lots of research on how to best convey the person he is dressing as. Now you need to understand something -- when Ben gets mind set on a costume he goes to all lengths to get the essential pieces. (Usually about 3 days prior to Halloween, but that is neither here nor there). So anyways. He finds a wig and a few other accesories that he needs from some girl on Craigslist. All week, he has been planning to meet up with this girl to pay her and get his accessories. So he talks to her this afternoon and they decide to meet tonight.
The girl sets up the meeting spot at a bar (Ben is a man, so he doesn't see through this scheme). Ben arrives at the bar at the planned time and this girl shows up with her friend! So Ben is a nice guy (and loves meeting and talking to people) so he is polite and stays to talk to them for a few minutes. He then left and met me at Mellow Mushroom for dinner. About 10 minutes after he sits down, he gets the following text message from this girl:
" Hey Ben, my friend was wondering if you're single?"
Of course he tells me about this text. I laughed. He of course responded to the girl and told her that he was married. I think she felt like a jerk because she responds with the following:
"Oh I'm so sorry!! I apologize for the text, have fun with the costume"
And I laughed of course. I'm not the jealous type. And I also happen to trust my husband (if I didn't, I couldn't have married him). But this is funny. And I think its good -- I think it is nice for him to be flattered from time to time by someone other than his wife.
2) I need some help in settling an argument. Twice recently I have bought a cupcake for Ben. (From Sweet Pockets, when I was there to buy some for myself). So then I came home and told Ben that one of the cupcakes was for him. I then ate my cupcakes. Both times, my cupcakes are gone after a day and his is still in the box. What is a cupcake lover with no self-discipline to do?
Of course I ate his.
And here is the hell of it, HE GETS ONTO ME ABOUT EATING HIS FOOD!!!!
So this begs the question : If I buy him a cupcake and he doesn't eat it within a 24 hour period, isn't it rightfully mine?
3) To the jerk who got out of his car 2 whole seconds before Ben and I tonight, rushed to the elevator, and didn't hold it for us: YOU ARE A HUGE GARY. And you're rude. Have some common courtsey dude -- if someone is walking right behind you and you know they are headed for the elevator, HOLD the damn elevator for 2 seconds and be polite to your neighbor. To put it in Ben's words "thanks for sucking"!

Crentist the Dentist
Had a routine appointment with Dr. Crentist this morning. Even though I was just going in for my bi-annual cleaning I dreaded the visit just as much as I would a root canal. I HATE the dentist. In my mind, it is an hour of pure torture.
I think that my bad attitude towards going to the dentist stems from my childhood. When I was young I went to the dentist regularly. And I regularly came out with 1, 2, sometimes even 3 cavities per visit. I kid you not. My mother even got to the point where she would pay me if I came out with a "zero cavities" report. I think that of the numerous times she took me to the dentist as a child she maybe had to pay me twice.
As I've grown up and learned to take care of my teeth better, the zero cavity reports have become more frequent. I still have them, but just not every single time that I go. However, this has come at a cost. Over the past three years, I cannot come out of the dentist without some sort of referral to some sort of specialist. I ignored the periodontist referral for about a year and then finally went to see him last year. I ended up having to have surgery. After that was taken care of, I went back to the dentist and came out with a referral for some jaw specialist. Still haven't followed up on that little problem. Today? Today, I was told that I need to go to an orthodontist. Apparently, I need a freaking bite guard because I grind my teeth at night. And also they think a few of my teeth are a little "too mobile" for their liking. When you tell me that my teeth are mobile, I will take you seriously. So, bite guard here I come. Yipee.
In summary, I hated the dentist when I was young because I always got into trouble for having cavities. (I really couldn't help it -- I did brush and floss). Now, I hate the dentist because I cannot go without being referred to someone else for some random problem that I have. Can't I just go back to the days of having cavities?
On a positive note, Dr. Crentist has stopped handing out the cheap dental floss and is now giving Oral B satin floss to his patients after each visit. At least I've got that.

Run Forrest Run

After talking to a friend this afternoon and having my endurance called into question, I was inspired. I was bound and determined to actually RUN on my afternoon run. (As opposed to the walking that I normally do). I visualized my run all afternoon. I really had myself psyched up to run about a mile. Believe me, this would be quite the accomplishment.
So what was the outcome you ask?
Seriously. Be honest with yourself. OF COURSE I couldn't run a whole mile. I think I ran about 0.3 miles. Don't laugh. This is a huge accomplishment (for me). After that 3/10 of a mile I continued on my path and ran in spurts. As a follow-up to one of my previous posts (thank you everyone for your musical suggestions) here are a few songs that helped me out today:
Desperatley Wanting -- Better than Ezra
Like a Prayer -- Madonna
Scarlett Begonias -- Grateful Dead
Laugh at me if you want. Clearly the person who said that I have no endurance has a point. Whatever. Its a work in progress.
Oh. One more thing. I'm in the middle of cooking dinner. Hawaiian chicken, green beans, couscous (for me) and a baked potato (for Ben). What are the odds Ben eats what I'm cooking without complaint?
