Random Thursday

Hmmmm .... I've got a mumble jumble of thoughts running through my mind and I'm not sure any of them deserves a full post so this is going to be pretty random!

- I probably shouldn't admit this but I've started back to watching The Hills and I just love it. I know the show is totally meant to capture the teeny-bopper audience but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who watches it. However, the series finale just aired this week and I can't help but wonder what these kids will do now that the show is over? These kids don't REALLY work ... they have jobs but I'm pretty sure that is just for TV purposes. So, what now? I figure they'll all have to find some other TV show to star in and do their damdest to stay in the public eye. Who knows, and really who even cares?

- I've also been watching The City. I don't like it quite as much as I do The Hills, but I love Kelly Cutrone and all her antics!

- Mom and I packed away all my maternity clothes a few weeks ago. Although not everything fits just yet it was still great to get my old, and not so limited wardrobe back!! I was starting to get REALLY sick of my maternity clothes ... especially in the end when only about 3 things fit me.

- Darius Rucker may have been cool back in 1996 when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish (or was he even cool then?) but he has several country songs out now and I HATE THEM. Seriously. If I won the lottery I think my first order of business might be to pay him off to quit making music. (How much would I have to win in order to do that?)

- Wyatt has discovered a new sleeping position. Actually his Meme made the discovery that he really likes sleeping on his tummy. He is a great sleeper, but tummy sleeping seems to yield even better naps so I love this! (And of course, we don't let him sleep this way at night .... only during the day and only when we are sitting right next to him - we're not gizzards!)

- I'm back to work now. Part-time until the end of this month, but it is actually good to be back. That being said, I can already see that getting another person ready for the day isn't going to be so easy. I'm sure we'll find our routine but it will just be a little difficult until we get used to it.

- I'm finally sending out Wyatt's birth announcements. Let it be said that I am NOT thrilled with them at all. Buuuuuuutttt ..... long story short it took the lady like 3 weeks to print them and ship to me and they looked awful. I had her re-print them and they are only marginally better than they were the first time. Oh well. Lesson learned. He's almost 2 months old at this point and I just don't have the time/energy to start over and order from somewhere else.

- This was maybe the most boring post in the world. I'm just trying to blog about stuff other than just Wyatt but I just don't seem to have much inspiration or material! Oh wells.

The Shred and Book Reccomendations

I finally broke down the other day and bought Jillian Micheals' 30 day shred. It was just time to mix up my workout routine and I'm simply not creative enough to do it myself. Also, I just don't have the time to commit an hour or more to each workout and the thought of getting a good workout in 20 minutes sounded like something I should try. It arrived in my mailbox on Saturday and yesterday was my first day. IT. WAS. HARD. I'm not even kidding ... I just wanted to die while I was doing it but I pushed through and will be back for more this afternoon. I'll keep yall posted on my progress, but I'm going out of town next week so it will be more like a 10 day shred and then I'll start over with the full 30 days once I return.

After my workout and dinner, I was sooooo tired and felt like doing nothing so I decided to watch a movie that I had DVR'd a few weeks back. I chose Fool's Gold and now I feel like I've lost two hours of my life that I'll never get back. Anyone seen that? Its Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, so it wasn't like I was expecting anything great but just a good light-hearted comedy. I guess it served its purpose though in getting my mind off these sore muscles of mine!!

I'm totally rambling here. I still don't have much blog inspiration. Ugh. Hate that. Anyway, I do need your help, readers. I'm in need of some book suggestions. I typically like easy, chick-lit type reads like Sophie Kinsella, Emily Giffin, etc but I'm really open to anything. What are some good reads you've found recently?

Ethical Dilemma

I've fumbled around all week trying to think of something to blog about. I was going to tell you all about how i de-cluttered our condo this past weekend but then decided that is probably not very interesting. Then I was going to tell you about the greatness that is a Philly Taco but that just made me hungry. I thought about talking about the recession but that is d*pr*ssing. (I can't type out that whole word, because several people have googled that word and found my blog ... oops!)

However, I was just paying some bills a few minutes ago and thought about something that you can all probably relate to. Charity Labels.

Yes, you know what I am talking about. We all get them from time to time -- cute little labels along with a letter requesting that we donate to some charity. Happened to me just last week. I usually don't open anything that I deem to be junk mail, but for whatever reason I opened this one. Immediately after opening the package, I was faced with a moral dilemma. The angel and devil started talking on my shoulders ... you know how that goes!

I'll probably get blasted for this, but I ended up keeping the labels. The devil on my left shoulder won out with quite a compelling argument. Because St. Jude sent the labels without my asking them to, they are a gift and I do not owe the charity. It would be wasteful to throw the labels away or send them back as they could not use them. Furthermore, St. Jude is attempting to guilt me into sending money to them by sending me gifts. They should be ashamed of themselves, really. (I thought that was a fine point)

What do you do with charity labels you receive in the mail? Do you keep and use them? Do you send money? Do you throw them out?

Ramblings

  • I am so darn happy that today is Friday!
  • It makes me laugh when I talk to some of our customers on the telephone and they have American music blaring. (Most of our customers are Indians)
  • I think that an ideal first date would not take place at a chain restaurant. This is something that has been heavily debated this week amongst some of my friends.
  • I am angry with the Braves for letting Smoltz go over a few million dollars. But the more I read arguments for the Braves, I can understand their rationale.
  • I have this calendar in my office that makes me angry every time I look at it.
  • I think I'll take it down and put my new one up.
  • If you are actually reading this post, you must think I'm pretty lame.
  • I have not worked out since before Christmas and doubt I'll start next week.
  • Ben finally shaved off his beard today! Yaay!
  • I love the shoes that I'm wearing today but I'm afraid they're going to cause a broken ankle.
  • I did not watch the National Championship game last night but did thoroughly enjoy watching Grey's Anatomy!
  • I'm bored with this so I know you have to be. Thanks for sticking with me.
What are your random thoughts today? I know I'm not the only weirdo who has them.

Fancy Pants

I have a confession to make. I guess it isn't a true confession given that I am posting it on the interwebs for anyone to find. But here goes ....

I have committed a major fashion faux pas. I am wearing the same pair of pants that I wore yesterday.

Is that horrible? I mean they're just black work pants. Aren't they all the same anyway?

I would like to try to defend myself for making this terrible decision but the reality is that it was done out of pure laziness. I did not re-hang my pants when I changed out of work clothes last night. I also failed to select an outfit last night. Therefore, when I got up this morning and saw that pair of pants laying in my closet I simply defaulted to the easiest thing.

Pretty much the only thing I have going for me today is that I did a good job of adding a pop of color with red shoes and a fun necklace. But then I read somewhere that red shoes are whorish. So I really don't know. I guess I'm just a lazy, fashion-challenged, whore.

Current Favorite Products

This might be a boring post to some of you. If it is, let me know and I’ll try to step it up next time! I really can’t afford to lose any of my 10 readers.

One of my favorite places in the world is the drugstore. I’m not kidding. One of my dreams in life is to win a 10 minute shopping spree in a drugstore. All I need is a shopping cart and 10 minutes. I would be a very happy woman ….

In honor of this dream of mine (which I know is totally unrealistic), I am going to post a few of my latest favorite products. These can all be found at your local CVS. Or Eckerd, or wherever you shop ….

1) L’Oreal Skin Genesis Gel Cleanser – I just bought this over the weekend and have found it to be absolutely FANTASTIC!! It is a very lightweight, foamy facial cleanser and it really does help to minimize your pores. After using it, your face feels nice and tight and smells great too! This needs to be on your must try list.
2) Arm & Hammer with Oxiclean – I’ve been using this stuff for the past few months and I highly recommend it. Of course I still use Tide for my regular laundry, but I use this to wash my sheets and towels. It really leaves them extra soft and extra clean.
3) Softlips – I remember using this back in middle school, so I know it has been out for quite a long time. However, I saw it the other day at the store and picked up a pack. The scents (Cherry, Strawberry, Raspberry, and French Vanilla) are just so much better than your normal chapstick and I think it does a better job ad conditioning dry lips than chaptstick.
4) Oil of Olay Regenerist – This moisturizer is FABULOUS. I tend to be pretty picky about my moisturizers, because anything too heavy will make my skin oily. This is actually called a ‘serum’ so it is lighter than most moisturizers. However, it will you the protection you need and will leave your face glowing. You must try this product.

That’s all I’ve got for today. Hope you like this installment of Favorite products. I know I enjoy seeing product recommendations on other blogs that I read, so maybe you will too!

Run Forrest Run

After talking to a friend this afternoon and having my endurance called into question, I was inspired. I was bound and determined to actually RUN on my afternoon run. (As opposed to the walking that I normally do). I visualized my run all afternoon. I really had myself psyched up to run about a mile. Believe me, this would be quite the accomplishment.

So what was the outcome you ask?

Seriously. Be honest with yourself. OF COURSE I couldn't run a whole mile. I think I ran about 0.3 miles. Don't laugh. This is a huge accomplishment (for me). After that 3/10 of a mile I continued on my path and ran in spurts. As a follow-up to one of my previous posts (thank you everyone for your musical suggestions) here are a few songs that helped me out today:

Desperatley Wanting -- Better than Ezra

Like a Prayer -- Madonna

Scarlett Begonias -- Grateful Dead

Laugh at me if you want. Clearly the person who said that I have no endurance has a point. Whatever. Its a work in progress.

Oh. One more thing. I'm in the middle of cooking dinner. Hawaiian chicken, green beans, couscous (for me) and a baked potato (for Ben). What are the odds Ben eats what I'm cooking without complaint?

Celebrity Gossip

I used to LOVE celebrity gossip. I mean L-O-V-E. It started out innocently enough with me buying the occasional copy of Us Weekly in the grocery store. Then, I went so far as to actually get a subscription to Us Weekly (my parents were never prouder). Then I discovered Perez Hilton. When I say that I checked his site religiously, I absolutley mean that. Literally, I could not go one single day without reading his site.

Eventually, I found some other good gossip sites that sorta fulfilled my gossip needs that Perez didn't. Perez was great for the latest trash story on whoever the big celebrity was at the time. Truly, he had some real breaking stories because he would say things that other websites and/or publications were unwilling to say. He went out on a limb. He would say mean things about people and draw funny things on their faces or write mean captions. Then there was Pop Sugar which was great for up to the minute news and always had lots of pictures. That site was especially good at Suri Cruise sightings and pictures. Then Us Weekly cannibalized its magazine sales by developing a website. There were other sites that I quite enjoyed but those were the major players.

Over the last year or so, however, I have for some reason laid off my incessant celebrity gossip checking. Is it that these sites are just not reporting interesting news? Do I not care about the particular celebrites covered? (Who honestly cares about any Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Britney Spears, Lauren Conrad, Audrina Partridge, etc etc?) Or is it that I have just simply (gasp) outgrown celebrity gossip?

Please tell me that it is just me ..... don't say this is happening because I'm getting old!!!
