I have a whole post about my weekend at the lake and my pirate catfish, but since I don't have all the pictures from my sister yet, you're going to have to settle for reading my feelings on Ashton Kutcher and his twitter hiatus.
Let me preface this by saying that I have not checked into the facts on any of this at all. Frankly, this isn't really important enough to waste time doing any research and fact-checking especially since any of my sources would be tabloid websites and they really aren't accurate anyway. With that said, I do have opinions on this whole Ashton Kutcher twitter hiatus and I feel like sharing them. Feel free to speak up if you have feelings on the subject and/or legitimate information!
Everyone knows Ashton Kutcher is on Twitter ... he was all proud of himself and made a HUGE deal out of being the first person to reach 1 million followers. I don't really understand Twitter at all, but what I do understand of it is this : if you are on it and have 1,000,000 followers then you are willingly putting information about yourself into cyberspace. Let me take that a step further. If you are a CELEBRITY and you are on Twitter and have 1,000,000 followers then you are basically allowing those million people (or probably more than that now) insight into your daily life. Essentially, they are able to stalk you if they so choose.
Soooooo, with all that said I heard on the radio this morning that Ashton Kutcher is threatning to take a twitter hiatus. (ooooooohhhhh Ashton ..... don't scare us like that!!) Apparently he is upset because there are rumors that the founders of Twitter are in talks to produce something called Twitter TV. I really don't even get it but I think the premise is some sort of competition-show where real people follow celebrities and Twitter about what they see. So I guess Ashton feels like he is being "sold out" by the folks at Twitter because he will end up getting stalked.
Ummm. You are a PUBLIC FIGURE.
WITH A TWITTER ACCOUNT.
WHO BRAGS ABOUT HAVING A MILLION FOLLOWERS.
I think the only person you can blame for selling you out is yourself, Ashton.

I "follow" Ashton on twitter. More for small doses of entertainment than anything else. Like, when he posts pictures from his movie set and stuff like that. Anyway, you are right. He has chosen to use twitter as a way to increase his celebrity. With this, he has chosen the public "stalking" that goes along with this. He could have chosen to have a private account if he only wanted to use twitter to communicate with his friends. Side note, twitter isn't a way to communicate. You only can type 140 characters at a time. Twitter is a way to be the center of attention. A way to mass text people that follow you so they think you're cool or witty. I'm off track, but celebs will say they don't like twitter stalking/attention just like they say they don't like the tabloids covering them. That said, I will still continue to follow him, Demi, Snoop Dogg, Stewart Cink, Dolly Parton, Kim Kardashian, Debbie Gibson, Martha Stewart, and last but not least, Josh Zobel. And I will still continue to get excited when they post a new twit.
I have a big following of people on Twitter who just want to see what hippie attire people wear to bed and to the pool.
Quote from Josh when I wore my "nightgown" to the pool:
"So, that's why you don't have kids"
...He's single ladies...
Ahhh, interesting post. I don't Twitter and don't really get its appeal. But, clearly I'm in the minority.
Though, I might suggest a slight diversion from your point of view. It's one thing for an individual (famous or not) to put information about their own life into the Universe. It's quite another thing to have throngs of people trying to find your shit out just to do well on a game show.
I totally agree that Ashton gets "tool" status for sharing his life with 1 million plus followers. But, he's doing it on his own terms. Maybe he can't live with others invading his life on terms that aren't his own.
Becky - You're right -- Twitter is totally a way for a person to be the center of attention. Although, I feel the same way about blogs so I shouldn't really judge!
Josh - How many followers do you have? 10? 12? I guess either way that is more followers than I have on my blog though ...
Nilsa - I agree with you to a point. If people twitter-stalk him when he is doing "normal" things like grocery shopping or having dinner with his family then that is invasive. If they twitter-stalk him when he's having lunch at the Ivy or opening a club in Vegas, then he is just asking for it. I realize my viewpoint is probably jaded but I honestly just don't have any sympathy for celebrities who consistently shove themselves into the limelight but complain about it when it is convenient to do so.
Speaking of Ashton... I freakin hate those Nikon commercials he does. It creeps me out that he is "acting" as himself - who is married to Demi Moore - and the "plot" of the ad has him hitting on girls. Bugs me to no end.
I agree. Ashton's crying about Twitter TV is the equivalent of Kate Gosselin whining about the paparazzi. I twitter, but in some sort of pathetic rebellion I chose not to follow Ashton or Oprah. I don’t know what that’s about but I feel better about my decision after reading your post.
Tracey I agree about those commercials! He is getting paid to act like he is being himself and hitting on girls who are basically the same age as his wife's daughters...something very wrong there.
That commercial is the only thing that makes Ashton cool in my book.
Tracey - I haven't seen the commercial but I generally dislike everything Ashton does.
EquisBuffy - Haha! I wouldn't follow either of them either if I were on Twitter.
Heather - You're totally right! He is terrible
Josh - really, there isn't anything that can make ashton look cool!
ALL: I guess this turned into a bash Ashton Kutcher blog. Oh well. I really don't like him so whatevs!
According to Crick you are cool if more people know you than you know them. So he has to be cool by that logic.
