5 Months Old!

Whoa, how time flies!!! (So much so, that I'm nearly a week late with this post) I cannot believe that Wyatt is now 5 months old. Its terribly cliche to say all this stuff, I know but it really is true that children grow up way too fast.

This will probably be boring to anyone who isn't family, but for my own records I'm just going to do bullet points of things he is doing these days! Feel free to skip over this and just enjoy the pictures ...
  • He is more and more alert each day. Wyatt is reaching and grabbing for EVERYTHING. This makes eating meals with him on my lap a little difficult -- he has grabbed my plate on a couple of occasions and almost knocked it off onto the floor!
  • He likes his highchair wobbly toys -- those will entertain him for 20-30 minutes when he is in a good mood. Long enough for Ben and I to sit and have dinner!
  • He is eating his solids pretty well. His favorite is pears, followed by peaches then apples. He likes bananas pretty well and tolerates most veggies. Recently I've started doing the bait and switch with him and poor guy makes the most pitiful faces after he's had a few bites of fruit and then suddenly gets a mouthful of peas or squash or something!
  • I take that back, he is eating solid fruits and veggies well. Cereal, notsomuch. I've started just mixing it in with his veggies or fruits sometimes and that seems to work a little better.
  • He is still eating every 4 hours during the day. 7 ounces when he gets a bottle. I'm still not sure how much he eats when I nurse him, but he seems contented so I guess that is all that really matters!
  • When he's laying down and we stand over him, he loves to reach up and grab at our faces/hair/ears. It hurts sometimes and we have to make a point to tell him "no, no" when he pulls at our hair!
  • He still loves his play mat. (It will be a sad day when we have to put that away) Now, he is able to pull the toys down and we'll put him on it and then 5 minutes later he'll be facing a different direction and usually rolls over to his tummy. Then he gets frustrated because he doesn't know he can roll over to his back (and I think I'm guilt of rushing in to save him too frequently because he gets upset)
  • He LOVES his exersaucer too! Just in the past week or week and a half he has realized that there are lots of fun toys for him to play with. His favorite is the alligator, I think.
  • He gets excited when we walk in to pick him up from school each day. That is definitely my favorite moment of the day -- seeing his smile when I go to get him! I like to think he's happy to see his mama.
  • I wish I could accurately describe his favorite noise -- its this high-pitched, squeaking inhale sound and then he always smiles afterwards. That usually makes him cough but it is sooo cute!
  • He will laugh at us, but we have to work really hard to get a laugh out of him! I hope he gets more generous with the laughter because it is such a sweet sound.
  • His other favorite thing to do is to put his lips together and make blowing sounds with his mouth. (Here is a video I took the other day)

He's doing lots more things, but that is all I can think of to post right now. And if you actually read through all that, bless you!

We had Wyatt's 5 month photo shoot on Tuesday. The kid napped all day (but he still slept all night so that is okay) and just didn't really care to be awake and smiley for his pictures. We did the best we could with him.

My favorite are this pumpkin series that we did. My Dad told me this was "child torture". My cousin said that Wyatt will hate me one day when he sees this. Mom and I think its cute though!

"I'm not quite sure about this, Mom"

"Fine, I will sit here but I won't look at the camera and I most certainly WILL NOT SMILE!"

"Hmm, this is kinda tasty. Maybe I'll just sit here and chew on this thing"

"I. AM. OVER. IT. Get me out!!!"

Meme's Birthday Weekend

This past weekend we celebrated Meme's (my Mom's) birthday up at the lake! I won't say that our trip UP to the lake was exactly a smooth one but we did have a great time once we all got there. We spent Saturday relaxing around the house and enjoying the beautiful weather. We talked about sitting out on the dock to get some sun but when it came down to it, we decided that long naps while the kids were sleeping would be a better use of our time!

(If you read Kimmie's blog, you've seen all of these pictures already! She beat me to the punch this time!)
Ellie was sitting in this chair and then called her Mommy over to sit with her. Then she looked at me and said "both" meaning she wanted me to sit there too. So, here we are. Ellie thought this was a riot!

Ellie likes to copy Wyatt sometimes ... if he's laying in his baby pool, she likes to be right there with him. She even put her fingers in her mouth like Wyatt tends to do!

I love this sweet picture of them.

Saturday was Mom's actual birthday so we celebrated with gifts and then went to dinner at this AWESOME asian place in Anderson. Before dinner, we actually had time for a few pictures which was a pretty big accomplishment considering we had 2 kids to get bathed and dressed.

Me and Wyatt. (Mom said I needed an updated profile picture on my FB page since Wyatt is getting so big and changing so much!) Ben was busy watching Georgia Tech lose to Clemson so that is why he isn't pictured :(

Isn't this a fun entree! This was what Dad had for dinner.

Hope you had a great birthday, Meme!

Pumpkin Patch

Mom and I took Wyatt to a little pumpkin patch near my house last Tuesday. This was late afternoon, so he wasn't terribly cooperative with us but, here are a few of the pictures we were able to get. (I think it is a law that in October you have to have pictures of your child in a pumpkin patch, right?)

My Mom took this picture of him while she was babysitting him that same day. We have been practicing to get him sitting up! He can do it for a few seconds but we're improving each and every day. He's getting so big!

Tech Game

This past weekend we took Wyatt to his 2nd tailgate and home football game. It was a looooong day for Wyatt (really for all 3 of us) but he did so great!

We hadn't ever been to yellow jacket alley in the past, and decided that it would be fun to take Wyatt. This was mostly at my insistence as I really wanted a cute picture of Wyatt and Buzz -- its ALWAYS about the photo opportunities, right?

First we got one with Wyatt and the cheerleaders. Although I'd love to call him a ladies man, he doesn't really seem interested. He's just playing it cool though, right?

Then we got one of him and ole' Buzz. Its not great but we're going to try again this week. Oh and you see that man in the background giving the stink-eye? Yeah, he was doing that the whole time. I guess he doesn't appreciate the paparazzi (aka Ben and I with our giant camera)??!!

We had a little time to kill before the players arrived, so Ben took a few of Wyatt and I. We couldn't quite get a smile out of him but we did capture this sweet expression.
Eventually, the team buses rolled in. We set this part of the photo shoot up incorrectly and we intend to get it right this weekend so that we can have pictures of Wyatt actually greeting the players. (Sidenote: I did feel kinda bad though because the whole point is to encourage the players before the game and give them high fives and such. Not to stand there with a camera pointed across the street. So we'll see how it works out this week!)

After Yellow Jacket Alley, we went down to our tailgate. Speaking of, WHERE HAVE ALL OUR FRIENDS GONE???? There is hardly anyone at our tailgates anymore. We enjoyed it nonetheless.

And finally, here is a family picture. Difficult to get it right but we did okay! (If I win the lottery I'm going to hire 3 people: a "toter" to carry all heavy baby equipment, a photographer to capture good photos, and a jester to make Wyatt laugh when we are trying to take said photos!)

Papa's 80th Birthday

If you read my sister's blog this is all old news. But still you should read what I'm going to write because I do have a cute story to tell!

Last weekend we celebrated my Papa's 80th birthday! Quite the milestone for him, and amazing to me because he does not act like your typical 80-year old. At all. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the celebration. We were fortunate enough to have the WHOLE family there including all 10 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids. This hardly ever happens simply because our family is so large so it was nice to have everyone there to celebrate.

The 4 great-grandchildren. Tough to get them all smiling and looking at the camera at the same time so this is the best we could do!!

Now for the story I promised you. As I previously said, he doesn't really act his age and I love that about him. He still travels both internationally and stateside and plays golf several times a week (well, not quite as much in the winter months but you know what I mean ...). Apparently he has a pretty good drive and always hits the ball pretty far (I don't talk in terms of yardage). Anyway, he was golfing one day and the guy with him was in his 60's. So a good 15-20 years younger than my grandfather. Papa hit his drive and it was a good one. The man said "Wow, Bob, that was a great shot! I wish I could drive the ball that far". Papa's response: "Yeah maybe one day when you grow up you'll learn to drive the ball just like me!"

Awesome!

Thanks, Zach Galifinakis

I love The Hangover for many, many reasons. (Can't wait for The Hangover 2 to come out ... pretty sure we'll be seeing that one in the theater!) But one of my favorite things about The Hangover is Zach Galifinakis (am I spelling that correctly? who knows!). He is hilarious and all, but really I love him because he made the baby bjorn cool.

Ben rocked the bjorn this past weekend at the Braves game and will be sporting it again this Saturday at the football game! So, thanks Zach. Thanks for taking a functional piece of baby equipment and turning it into something trendy!

the past few weeks ...

We've been MIA the past few weeks .... busy, busy. Instead of actual content, I'm just going to do a picture overload for yall today! (Let's be honest though, when has my little ole blog ever been really about content though? Ha!)

Wyatt celebrated his 4-month birthday by eating rice cereal. He did pretty well and now we have introduced sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash (well that will be happening today about 1:00)!
The next day, Wyatt went to his very first Georgia Tech football game! Ben went to the tailgate a little earlier than Wyatt and I so we had this little bathroom-mirror photo shoot before we left! He looked so cute.
This is bad lighting but a rare photo of Ben and I so I had to post it!

Wyatt fell asleep while we were still at the tailgate and here he is with Ben before walking into the stadium. Neck is a liiiiiiiitle crooked there ..... but we really don't torture him. He loves to sleep with his neck all whonkeyjawed.

This was the only picture I took inside the stadium. It was SO HOT that we didn't stay very long. Also, I heard from a friend recently that Ben was telling people that I put a fleece hat on Wyatt in the 100 degree heat. This picture is proof that no, this hat is NOT fleece. Thick cotton, yes. Fleece, no. (He has a few baseball hats, but I thought the brim of this one would be more shady)
His hat is slightly tilted east. He's cool like that ....

The next day, Wyatt and I went out to Meme and Papa's house for his 4 month pictures! His little smile just gets cuter and cuter each month (to me). Enough cheese though!

This past Saturday Ben, and I took Wyatt to his first baseball game. We went to Bobby Cox day at Turner Field. Wyatt LOVED being there and totally fought falling asleep because he didn't want to miss out on anything!
