April Faves

I have a little (semi-annoying) housekeeping item to talk about before I get into this month's favorite products. You see those google ads over there on the right hand side of this page? Okay, so I haven't done a 'favorites' post in a couple of months now so this is long overdue. I have been blogging about more serious topics (mainly because someone accused me of being 'overcome by consumerism') but now I think its time to switch it up! These are some of my most recent discoveries.

Tide Total Care


I think I've mentioned this before, but I am a total sucker to a good ad campaign. Tide claims that washing your clothes with their Total Care product will help to prevent your clothing against the 7 signs of aging. I have mixed emotions on that, but mostly I believe that P&G invented a new formula which allows slightly higher profit margins than the rest of their line and the marketing department decided to come up with a convincing ad campaign so they could sell it. I needed detergent, so I of course picked up a bottle.

I can't and won't speak to their claim that it protects clothes against aging. Maybe that is true, maybe it isn't. But the stuff SMELLS FANTASTIC! It honestly doesn't smell all that great in the container, but once you pull your clothes out of the wash .... ahhhh! So fresh and so clean.

Thomas Strawberry Bagels


These were a bit of an impulse purchase the other day at the grocery store, but definitely a good one! I haven't noticed these before so they may or may not be new but they are delicious! I toasted one this morning and put a little cream cheese on top ... they were fabulous.

Crest Pro-Health Night Toothpaste
Mamacita recommended this one to me. At first I was skeptical because I am a stickler for making sure that any toothpaste I use has the ADA seal of approval and sometimes these 'weird' toothpastes do not (even if they are Crest or Colgate). Anyway, I tried it and it is great! It has these little notsurewhattocallthem bubbles in with the paste that kinda massage your gums and really scrub your teeth. You really do get that just-left-the-dentist clean feeling after using it! I'm not quite sure why it is recommended for night use, but I use it day or night.

Coffee-Mate Italian Sweet Cream


Another one my mom introduced me to! (She's a savvy shopper, I tell you) If you are like me and like your coffee sweetened with a little flavored cream, this is a must try! I don't think it comes sugar free or fat free, but I promise its worth it.

Friday Favorites

This week, I asked all of you to please send me an email with your favorite eye care products. Not an overwhelming participation, but I'll forgive all of you slackers :) I did receive a few good product referrals, so thanks to all of you who emailed me!

Benefit Lemon Aid -- This is an under eye/eyelid concealer that two people recommended. Here are their comments:

Curel Extra Moisturizing Lotion -- Not really an eye care product, but thanks for the suggestion anyway!

I absolutely love Curel Extra Moisturizing Lotion. It makes your skin on your elbows like a baby's bottom!
Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Make Up Remover -- Two people suggested this product! Here is what they had to say:

Usually gets everything off in one or two swipes.

My favorite eye care product is Netrogena Oil Free Eye Make Up Remover. It is about $6.00 and can be found at any drug store. One bottle will last me about a month or so. (I did try the CVS Generic Brand and really saw no difference other than saving a couple of bucks). I use this daily and it leaves a clean non-greasy feeling around your eyes and removes dark eyeliner and mascara with a couple of swipes.

I'm sure I won't be the only one to suggest these bad boys. They get every itty bitty hair

Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner

This is easily the best eyeliner on the market -- far superior to any of the fancier brands. It is easy to apply and lasts all day.

Beauty Products

A friend emailed me today with an idea for my blog. (Thanks, Aubrey!) She suggested that I ask my readers to email me with reccommendations of their favorite beauty products. Since my favorite lists seem to get good feedback, I agree with her that this might be a fun thing to try!

So, e-mail me(katherineburkett@gmail.com)and tell me what your favorite beauty product is and why. It can be anything from an eyelash curler to chapstick ... just something that you've found that makes your beauty routine more enjoyable.

February Faves

I think my last few posts were a little too negative, so I'll change gears. Even if it is just for a few days :)

I want to report on some of my recent finds. Usually I try to stick to drugstore items, but not this time.

Jergens Ultra Healing moisturizer - I realize that I usually have some type of lotion or moisturizer on my "favorites" posts, but its wintertime and that means that I use a ton of it. Each type of lotion that I write about serves a different purpose and is used at different times of the day. This particular lotion is something I use while at work because I wash my hands so frequently. It does a great job of combating the winter dryness and is light enough that you can apply it several times each day.

Mr. Clean with Febreze - I can't take credit for this find since my sister and my mom introduced me to it but I can say that I've bought it and it is fabulous. I mainly use it for cleaning my kitchen countertops. They have to be wiped down daily, and this is a good way to get your counters clean and kitchen smelling nice after cooking.


The Show Cabernet Sauvignon - This is a wine that I had tried before and just recently re-discovered it. You can easily find this in most grocery stores for about $12. Because it is an affordable, everyday wine we tend to drink a few bottles each week. I'm not a connesiuer so, I'll borrow the tasting notes from WineCentric

Dark night-red color with black fruit and mocha on the nose. Cocoa and chocolate take the forefront and dominate the finish. Cherry, vanilla and bitter tannins lurk underneath. Smooths out after breathing and becomes a rich, lush wine with considerable muscle.

Philly Tacos - These are maybe the best things ever invented! Think of a philly cheesesteak but in taco form. And then make it better. Sorry, but I don't have a picture that can do these little bites of heaven justice. However, be on the lookout for these gems at any taqueria near you. My favorite are Taqueria del Sol and Taqueria los Hermanos. They both have excellent Philly tacos.

And now, to keep this fair I'll list the things that I HATE:



Yup, I'm still having problems with them. They suck. Enough said.

Favorites of the Month

I'll do my best to make this a recurring post. As I've mentioned before, I love shopping at the drugstore and even more than that I love discovering new products. Here are some of my most recent finds.

1) Extra Fruit Sensations Berry Pearadise gum. OMG this stuff is amazing! You can't find this just anywhere so be on the lookout for it at any drugstore, grocery store, gas station, or Target/Wal-Mart type store. This gum is fantastic -- it holds its flavor longer than most gums and stays soft as well. I had an open pack of this in my office a few weeks ago and every time I walked in, I could smell this gum. You must try it.

2) Organix Pomegranite Green Tea Shampoo -- I like to mix up my shampoos. I alternate between 3-4 different kinds each day. I'm a little neurotic about it, and Ben hates all the bottles in our shower but its something that I've always done. Because I alway alternate shampoos, I am always on the lookout for a new kind and stumbled across this one at Target a few weeks ago. Neither the shampoo or conditioner is too heavy, leaves no residue and keeps your hair smelling great all day!

3) Burt's Bees Hand Salve -- This stuff is fabulous. Especially in the winter when your hands tend to get dry and gross. I got some for Christmas and have been using it religiously every night. I don't really think it is meant to be used as a lotion, but really is meant to help smooth out and heal your hands.

4) Mucinex D -- Yeah, go ahead and call me gross if you want to. I put this on the list because I had a little cold/sinus issue last week and this stuff works wonders for masking the symptoms. I will admit that these make you a little grumpy and jittery, but they work wonders.
