Jessica, Jessica ....

I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Jessica Simpson's latest little blunder? In case you haven't, here is the scoop: Jessica and Tony Romo broke up (a few weeks ago) but not before Jessica was able to gift Tony a $100,000 boat for his birthday. I guess Jess hasn't really been out in public much since the breakup because she was out the other day and the paparazzi were following her and asking her tons of questions. I only heard the audio, but from what I could tell, it seemed like she was trying to be polite and ignore the questions the best she could. Eventually they start asking about the boat and whether or not she she was asking for Tony to return it to her now that they've broken up.

Now, based on the audio it seems like Jessica is getting annoyed. So she responds "I'm not an Indian Giver" The papper responds "oh, not an Indian Giver, huh, Jessica?". End of audio.

Of course now, she is getting flack from the Native-Indian community for her comment. This is, I'm sure, fueled by our loverly news media. And now, of course I have a few thoughts on the matter. (Let me preface by stating that I do not particularly like JSimp. She's okay and all, but I just don't really think she's brought anything to the table since her Newlywed days and I'm just over her.) First, I think this is a classic case of a celebrity letting their guard down when they are being inundated by paparazzi. She was annoyed, and said the first thing that came to her mind. Who cares? It was clear that she didn't mean anything offensive by the statement. Secondly, the phrase 'Indian Giver' is a fairly common phrase. Maybe in these days of insane political correctness it isn't, but its certainly something she grew up saying. (I know I certainly did). Also, isn't Jessica known for her little gaffes? "Chicken of the Sea", "I Don't Eat Buffalo". So, really, for someone who is known to say things without thinking, can they really be accused of being racially insensitive? No. I think not.

The celebrity bloggers need to find someone else to pick on. She didn't mean to be offensive and this is a typical case of the media making a big deal out of something so ridiculously minor.

Yes, I watch this show. Religiously. I am probably unwise to admit that publicly, but whatevs. I really only started watching because I love/hate Heidi and Spencer and I figured that them being included in this cast meant drama and good, mindless television. Turns out, I was absolutely correct! Shocker, I know.

I guess the show is supposed to be a spinoff on Survivor, but with celebrities. (I think every reality show is some type of spinoff of Survivor, but I digress.) Apparently, NBC has a very loose definition of the word 'celebrity' as evidenced by the cast members:

Heidi Montag
Spencer Pratt
Sanjaya Malakar
John Salley
Janice Dickinson
Stephen Baldwin
Lou Diamond Phillips
Torrie Wilson
Frangela
Patti Blagojevich
Daniel Baldwin

Ummmm ... really? These people are celebrities? I guess, by definition, they are but I would be hard pressed to tell you why most of them are even famous! I think everyone knows Speidi, and the Baldwins, and possibly Lou Diamond Phillips but beyond that? Who in the world is Frangela? (They are some comedy duo on VH1). And Patti Blagojevich?

Another thing about this show? Supposedly these people are playing for a charity of their choice, and that is wonderful. But in reality, I suspect that there is some compensation involved for the people who are doing this show. Some may have good intentions and may truly be there only to support their favorite charity, but I have a hard time believing that everyone's motivations are that altruistic. So basically, they are mostly in it for the free press (let's face it ... these people are mostly famewhores) and for whatever monetary compensation they are receiving.

I think everyone has watched Survivor at one time or another. The contestants on that show are fighters .... they eat whatever nasty insects they are served and they don't back down from any physical or mental challenges. These clowns? You tell them to eat one little bug and they flip out. Literally, they totally melt!

I'm getting to the point here, I swear.

Actually, my point is two-fold so I'm getting to both of them. Really.

First, if these people honestly care about their charities they need to act right. If they're told to get into a tank full of snakes and baby alligators, they just need to do it. If they're told to eat a goat testicle, they should try. They agreed to be on this show and accepted payment so now they need to participate. Like real Survivor contestants.

Secondly, what do these people think they are accomplishing by acting like divas. Do they not realize that they are belittling themselves by the way they behave? What are they accomplishing by creating drama all the time? Why do they have to steal each other's stuff and whine about their accommodations constantly? Sure this show is a train wreck, but it might not be if they would treat it like normal Survivor contestants do. Stuff like this just gives celebrities a bad name!

Twittergate

I have a whole post about my weekend at the lake and my pirate catfish, but since I don't have all the pictures from my sister yet, you're going to have to settle for reading my feelings on Ashton Kutcher and his twitter hiatus.

Let me preface this by saying that I have not checked into the facts on any of this at all. Frankly, this isn't really important enough to waste time doing any research and fact-checking especially since any of my sources would be tabloid websites and they really aren't accurate anyway. With that said, I do have opinions on this whole Ashton Kutcher twitter hiatus and I feel like sharing them. Feel free to speak up if you have feelings on the subject and/or legitimate information!

Everyone knows Ashton Kutcher is on Twitter ... he was all proud of himself and made a HUGE deal out of being the first person to reach 1 million followers. I don't really understand Twitter at all, but what I do understand of it is this : if you are on it and have 1,000,000 followers then you are willingly putting information about yourself into cyberspace. Let me take that a step further. If you are a CELEBRITY and you are on Twitter and have 1,000,000 followers then you are basically allowing those million people (or probably more than that now) insight into your daily life. Essentially, they are able to stalk you if they so choose.

Soooooo, with all that said I heard on the radio this morning that Ashton Kutcher is threatning to take a twitter hiatus. (ooooooohhhhh Ashton ..... don't scare us like that!!) Apparently he is upset because there are rumors that the founders of Twitter are in talks to produce something called Twitter TV. I really don't even get it but I think the premise is some sort of competition-show where real people follow celebrities and Twitter about what they see. So I guess Ashton feels like he is being "sold out" by the folks at Twitter because he will end up getting stalked.

Ummm. You are a PUBLIC FIGURE.

WHO BRAGS ABOUT HAVING A MILLION FOLLOWERS.

I think the only person you can blame for selling you out is yourself, Ashton.
