A Difficult Life

So, I had the following conversation with a friend of mine this morning. In an effort to protect her identity, I will call her "Candy". (I'm sure she will love that)

Candy: I realized something last night

me: what?

Candy: This time of year (fall) REALLY stresses me out.
I mean, first you have the fact that all of our weekends are spent out of town at football games or other such things.
Then, the biggest thing is Fall TV.
here are so many shows to watch and so little time.
My DVR list is so long and I never have time to catch up!
I don't even have time to read all of my magazines waiting on my kitchen counter Katie!

me: i know. i was thinking along those same lines yesterday b/c we're going to be gone all weekend and i can't catch up on my tv
well you can read the magazines on the road

Candy: I can't believe there are people in Africa worried about where they will find their next piece of bread or drink of water when there is real stuff to worry about like Fall TV and magazines.

me: ha!! i know .. and what we will wear to biggie's wedding, rehearsal dinner., etc

Candy: YES!

me: and do we have enough yellow stuff to wear for tech games?

Candy: I think I need to take a sick day

me: maybe you should!

Candy: And I have zero time to do my nails
FML

Now, you may read this and think "how shallow ... we have serious problems facing this country -- national security, education, terrible economy, increasing crime, etc." And you would be correct. But the point is that life gets increasingly difficult as we age, and I personally think it is important to find an outlet. My outlet is TV. Maybe a better outlet would be exercise, or reading, charity work, or something educational. But for me, TV it is. Don't you dare judge me!!

*** Side note: Candy and I had this conversation in jest. If you know her at all, you'll be able to figure out who Candy really is and you also know that she was only kidding. Kindof

PANTHER -- does this count as gossiping about my friends?

Just So You Know ...

He is TOTALLY winning. And I don't like it.(in his mind he is not competing with me because he just likes to write). Don't yall worry though ... DONKEY FREAKIN KONG, people ... DONKEY KONG. Either I will win, or I will remove myself from the competition (because it is unfair, duh).

Anyways. I'll update you on our evening. It has been allsome. Allsome just like me :)

If you have ever heard me say that Ben is a picky eater, it is absolutley the truth. He is. When I say he loves steak and potatoes, it isn't an exaggeration. That is probably his most favorite meal. Admitedly, it is mine too!!

SO, tonight we had steak, potatoes, and asparagus**. Along with a bottle of red wine that our friends gave us a LONG time ago. (Heitz Cellars .. yum -- thanks BeckDun). Ben can really cook a good steak!!!! He makes his own marinade (secret recipe, don't even bother to ask). So we grilled our steaks and made mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus to go along with it. YUMMM!!

It was a great night -- we had one of those long, drawn out dinners where you just talk and catch up on the week. Fantastic. We did just that and it couldn't have been better!!

** I must give credit to Meg on this asparagus -- broil at about 350 for 5-7 minutes, remove from oven, sprinkle parmesan (pref. Boar's Head parmigano-reggiano) over top and bake for 1 more minute. Remove and serve immediatley. D-FREAKIN-LICIOUS

Now, we are catching up on some Wii. We tried to play Mario Galaxy, but after a bottle and a half of wine we just SUUUUUCCCCK!! So, we are now playing Guitar Hero. Our band name is
'Muggin'.

We are in a crazy fight with the Devil right now on Guitar Hero. GOTTA JET

Hey Jealousy

There is another song reference for ya'. Gin Blossoms circa 1992 or something like that.

Okay, so I have a confession to make. I am jealous of my husband. Jealous as hell. You see, he has a blog too -- he started his about a month before I did. If you don't know Ben, he LOVES sports. That is actually a bit of an understatement. Anyway, so he usually blogs about something sports-related. And therefore, there is quite a bit of diversity on his blog. Which means when random people google random names his blog shows up on Google.

Let me give you a couple of examples. He had an entry about whoever in the world Norm Chow coaches for. Randomly, some clown in California googled "Norm Chow" and narrowed his search down to things posted in the past 12 hours and BEN'S blog came up. Then, out of the blue, he writes an article about the particle accelerator and damn if some person in CHINA didn't find his blog!! Now today, I find out that some Vanderbilt bloggers found Ben's blog and posted a link on theirs. Uggh.

Now I don't really expect either him or I to acheive worldwide fame or anything like that. Not from blogging. But still, I want random traffic. Even if they never do come back.

It is on, Ben Longmire. It is on like donkey kong!!

Couldn't Resist ....

I don't really mean to get too political on this blog. Although I may at some point closer to the election. However, I came across this picture today on Boortz and just HAD to post it!!

Summer is ovah

So today was officially the first day of Autumn. Sad. Seriously, what is good about the end of summer? I guess the one sliver lining to this cloud known as fall is the fact that the new TV season starts soon. Here are all the TV shows I am interested in watching this fall:

Dancing with the Stars
CSI Miami
90210
Lipstick Jungle
Man vs. Wild
Grey’s Anatomy
The Office
CSI (Ben’s favorite)
Desperate Housewives
Entourage
House Hunters International
Regis & Kelly
Project Runway (this season is almost over, not sure when the new one starts)
Top Chef
The Next Food Network Star

Now, I’m sure that after seeing that list you are thinking “what a loser … who spends that much time watching TV?” Obviously, I am not able to spend 13.5 hours each week watching TV. So some shows will be watched loyally and others will be DVR’d for a rainy day.

With all that said, I need some help. Which shows should go on the “must watch” list, and which ones should take a backseat? Keep in mind that I need a good balance of shows that I watch for myself and also some that Ben and I can watch together (otherwise I won't ever get to use the good TV)

Oh and by the way. Does anyone else think Eva Longoria is prego? She’s got to be ….

*********** I just watched the intro to CSI Miami. All I have to say is that if Horatio is really dead, I will be forced to quit the show. Didn't they see what happened to the O.C. after they killed Marissa off? UGGGGGH

Weekend Pictures

I so wish I had something fun and glamorous to report from the weekend, but unfortunatley I just don't! I do have some pictures from the GaTech game on Saturday.

It's the Wiikend!!!

Yes, I said it. Go ahead and call me a dork, I don't really care. I love my, well really Ben's, Wii.

Because it is now football season and we've just had a lot going on the past couple of wiiks, (I know that was bad) we really haven't been playing all that much latley.

Despite the Tech game tomorrow, and Ryder Cup coverage until Sunday, Ben and I do plan on catching up on some Super Mario Galaxy.

I won't report back on our progress Monday -- I swear my next post will be much more interesting!

Just Not Today

that is a KC song reference for those of you who don't know ...

sorry there is no longmire update today. ben was scheduled to do a "guest blog" but life got in the way. he was busy last night with a softball game followed by a football game. but don't worry -- he'll make it up next week at some point :)

work is so rough. i am MUGGIN. if you don't know the definition of muggin, please click here!

that's all for now. i'm sure i'll have an adventure or two to share after the weekend.

oh wait. one more note. i just noticed that dooce's latest post is something about obama 08. please disregard that. she is a flaming liberal but a great writer -- read it if you want but skip over the political b.s.

Baby Sloane!

I mentioned in my previous post that I went to visit my friend Meg yesterday and her brand new baby, Sloane. I just wanted to post a little picture of her so that everyone can see how precious she is!

Let's Make a Deal

My most loyal (only) reader pointed out that my blog hasn’t really been about “life with the Longmires” so far. Therefore, I have decided to let you in on a little snippet from my evening with Ben.

I went to visit my friend Meg and her beautiful new baby Sloane today. I had made her one of my favorite casseroles, poppy seed chicken. Since I was making a big ole’ batch of it for her, I made a small one for myself and figured Ben and I would have it for dinner too.

Now, it is no secret that Ben is a PICKY eater so I knew that I would have a little resistance from Ben once I served him dinner. (He will kill me once he reads this post) Sure enough he called on his way home asking what was for dinner. I told him and he kinda grumbled a little bit.

I had a few minutes to prepare my game plan before he came home so I quickly thought of a way I could convince Ben to eat the casserole. Feeding him can seriously be worse than feeding a five year old child at times.

The conversation went a little something like this:

“Hey! Dinner is almost ready”

“Hm. Okay”

“So how about this? – you go into dinner with an open mind. You don’t have to like it, but you do have to eat it. If you do that then I’ll watch anything on TV tonight that you want. With an open mind …. I’ll get involved.”

“That isn’t a very good deal”

Sigh. “So that’s a no, huh?”

He really never did answer that question, but he did eat a good portion of what I put on his plate. We are now watching ESPN. And I’m taking an active interest in the Ryder Cup coverage.

Just so you know

I cannot stop daydreaming about Sweet Pockets (the cupcake place). Seriously, they are HEAVENLY.

If you are anywhere close to Vinings, you absolutley must stop in and buy a cookies n' creme cupcake.

I am obsessed ...

If you know me well, you know that I have a severe weakness for anything sweet, particularly cupcakes. So imagine my delight when I found out that there is a new cupcake shop literally three miles from my house! Naturally, I planned my whole Saturday afternoon around going to get some delicious cupcakes.

So it goes something like this: I get up Saturday morning – EARLY – shower, get dressed and set about my errands. I had intended to shop for a few hours, get cupcakes, and pick up lunch for Ben and myself on the way home. Didn’t quite work out this way … I literally could not force myself to drive past the cupcake store on my way to the Banana Republic. Couldn’t do it. Oh well, I’ll just shop after I buy the cupcakes, right? So I spent at least 30 minutes talking to the cashier about all the different flavors and debating which one to buy. Finally, I decide that it wouldn’t be fair to only buy one – the box did hold up to four. As I am paying for them, the lady instructed me not to leave them in my car as the icing would melt. Welp, looks like I won’t be shopping today. I can’t let the icing on my precious cupcakes melt!

I did justify stopping to buy Chick-fil-a on the way home (icing won't melt in the drive-thru). But other than that, all my errands were scrapped. I get them home and promptly inhale two. Before eating lunch. I’m pathetic, I know. So, I decide that the other two will be Ben’s.

It is now Sunday night and I have eaten all four of the cupcakes. Not that I’m a calorie counter or anything, but how many calories can that really be? Like 1000? How long will it take me to work that off?

I am on cupcake probation.
